Explore the Swiss Cities

Switzerland is divided into 26 Kantons, essentially administrative units (much like states). They each have their own flag and widely differ historically and geographically from each other.

Here are some of the most delightful Swiss cities that you must not miss visiting:

Bern - The capital of Switzerland, the old town of Bern made it to the UNESCO's roster for Heritage Sites in 1983. It's medieval arcades, renaissance fountains, bear parks and the dazzling Aare river encompass the charming old town.

Zürich - It is the economic and education centre of Switzerland, where urban life meets the idyllic beauty of nature. Extremely cosmopolitan, the city is flanked by its gorgeous lake, its own mountain, churches and the most expensive shopping street in the world.

Geneva - Known as the capital of peace, it is the most international Swiss city. It houses the European seat of the United Nations Organization and the Red Cross headquarters. Home to the largest lake in the country, this french speaking city is disarming with its lakeside promenades, flower gardens and vintage shops.

Montreux - A postcard city, adorned with mountains, lakes and vineyards, this French speaking town of Switzerland is paradise in every sense. It is a resort town located on Lake Geneva, the country’s largest lake and from here one can look across the waters and spot France!

Basel - With the highest number of museums in Switzerland (40 to be precise), this green city is where the waters of 3 countries - Switzerland, France & Germany converge. Apart from its breathtaking town hall and the botanical gardens, it is also the hub for orchestra and theatre aficionados.

Lugano - It is not only the largest town in the Ticino region, but also the third most important financial centre in Switzerland. Enveloped by the Monte Brè and San Salvatore mountains and its breathtaking lake, the city boasts of magical Mediterranean style squares and arcades.

Lucerne - With its pristine lake, medieval buildings and the oldest covered wooden bridge in Europe, this town is located almost in the centre of Switzerland. With easy access to 3 different picturesque mountains, Lucerne is enthralling with its old town.

St. Moritz - 1,800 metres above sea level, is Switzerland's Alpine resort town, famed for its spas, winter sports and better known for attracting countless artists and celebrities. Also regarded as the world's no. 1 Alpine holiday destination, it is also the world’s only destination to have both UNESCO and Olympic Games credentials
